Duck Valley Indian Reservation NV151
Established in 1877 by President Rutherford B. Hayes, this reservation is situated on the ancestral lands of the Western Shoshone Indians. The reservation includes 400 square miles in Nevada and Idaho and is home to Northern Paiutes as well. Peaceful and cooperative, the residents have developed their culture from stone age levels to contemporary America, but many still retain ancient handicraft skills. Most residents are ranchers producing hay, wheat and cattle. Duck Valley Indian Reservation is governed by the Shoshone-Paiute Tribal Council elected by the residents.


Panaca Mercantile Store NV93
This building, popularly known as the Panaca Co-op, was constructed of adobe in 1868, by the (Mormon) "Panaca Cooperative Mercantile Institution" comprising more than 100 stock holders—to meet barter, merchandising and marketing needs. Wagons from Salt Lake drawn by six-mule teams, carried stocks to, and produce from, Panaca and way stations.

To the south lay this plantation. Here, in 1827, a Scottish spinster heiress named Frances Wright set up a colony whose aims were the enforcement of cooperative living and other advanced sociological experiments. It failed in 1830.
