Picture Courtesy of Joseph K. Landis Constructed of buff Indiana limestone and lined with Imperial Danby marble from Vermont, the State's Capitol is considered one of the world's superb examples of Italian Renaissance architecture. Designed by the internationally prominent Cass Gilbert and dedicated on June 20, 1932 by Governor William G. Conley as "a monument to West Virginians of yesterday, today, and tomorrow", this magnificent Capitol cost $10,000,000.
