The maker stands on U. S. Route 11 near the intersection of Hawley Dr, in Western Roanoke County, west of the City of Salem. The Text of the Marker Reads: The Home of James Campbell, a prominent colonial pioneer, who settled here in 1742, stood on this site. On this land Fort Lewis was built in 1756.
