 Picture courtesy of David Eck Edward Everard Goodwyn was born in Greensville Co. on 26 Sept. 1874. An Emporia businessman and civic leader, he also commanded the Virginia American Legion (1922-1923) and was a member of the National Executive Committee (1923-1925). Goodwyn served in the Fourth Virginia Regiment of the Virginia Volunteers reaching the rank of colonel. During World War I, he was stationed in France. In 1940, Gov. James H. Price appointed him brigadier general of the Virginia Protective Force, a post he held throughout World War II. He was a member of the Senate of Virginia from 1946 to 1947. Goodwyn died on 29 April 1961 and is buried northwest of here. Department of Historic Resources. 2002 U.S. Highway 301 South. Emporia City Virginia.
