Directly opposite are the remains of the earthen dam which burst, after days of rain, and released millions of tons of water on the afternoon of May 31, 1889. Within a few hours some 2000 persons perished during the ensuing flood that ravaged Johnstown.
North bound side of U.S219, at sta6/45, approxone mile south of South Fork Boro.. Cambria County Pennsylvania.
