Built as a tavern about 1800 it became known in 1846 as the William Penn Hotel. C C & B F Coles purchased it in 1859 and named it the Coles Hotel in 1890. Many important persons stopped here. It was also the home of the Moorestown - Camden Stagecoach from various times to 1820 until shortly after 1867 when the coming of the railroad, the stages ceased to run.
