First built at western edge of Mingo Swamp circa 1885. Acquired by William & Rebecca May, who dismantled and reconstructed on 43 acres of land deeded to William May as payment for services in the Civil War circa 1894. RECENT HISTORY

Donated by Earl & Ruth Carver to Evelyn (May) Wilson Great Granddaughter to William & Rebecca May She donated the house to the Wayne County Historical Society to be reconstructed at the City of Piedmont Dismantling began March 23, 1995, completed May 31, 1995. Logs moved to Piedmont by Earl Carver June 2, 1995. Reconstruction began by Wayne County Historical Society Members and supporters June 3, 1995.
