[From the oral history (and family journal): Mr. & Mrs. Harry Delashmit found a wounded Civil War Soldier. No one is sure whether he was Confederate or Union. They took him into their home, in what is now Mark Twin National Forest, and treated his wounds. Nearly healed by Mrs. Delashmit, the soldier left their home. The soldier had received word his unit may be in the local area and was anxious to meet up with them. A couple of days after leaving the Delashmit home, Mr. Delashmit was headed toward Belgrade when he found the young man dead along side the road. And buried him there. He is buried there still. I am told the journal was offered to the Missouri Historical Society, but they refused to even read it, or accept is as historic. The man's name is supposed to be in that journal. Incident is from 1862 or 1863.] Stone dedicated by Citizens of the area to preserve his memory and dignity. Oral history provided by Wade "Bill" Delashmit, June 2008. MO-Z, just N. of MO-C, W. of Belgrade, Washington County Missouri
