Two markers at this site: The Iron Landing
From about 1840-1860 iron products manufactured at the historic Maramec Iron Works located near the present town of St. James were hauled over The Iron Road and loaded on steamboats for shipment to eastern markets. This marker approximates the actual landing and commemorates that early industry.
2nd marker, a Granite monument
Terminus of the Iron Road 1829 ------ 1858
Iron was hauled by wagon from the Marramec Ironworks near St. James, to Hermann for river shipment to eastern ports.
