Two markers at this site:

The Iron Landing

From about 1840-1860 iron products manufactured at the historic Maramec Iron Works located near the present town of St. James were hauled over The Iron Road and loaded on steamboats for shipment to eastern markets. This marker approximates the actual landing and commemorates that early industry.

Iron was hauled by wagon from the Marramec Ironworks near St. James, to Hermann for river shipment to eastern ports.

1st Marker: This marker erected & maintained by The Brush & Palette Club, inc. Hermann, Missouri - 1997. Original marker erected by Sea Explorers Ship 95 of St. James, Mo - Aug. 5, 1956. 2nd Marker: Sesquicentennial project of the Hermann Lions Club, 1986.
