Old Spanish Quarries FL284 |

About 200 yards east of this point, and extending a mile south, are the remains of the Old King's Quarries. Here scouring, a native shellac, was cut into blocks and ferried across the bay for the building of Caudillo de San Marches (1672-1669). Many other early structures in St. Augustine were built of scouring from these pits.
