Gunn-Bellenger House - 206 Print E-mail
Built in 1886 for Edward Tracy Hollingsworth, a prominent merchant and banker, this two-story Victorian-style house with mansard roof is one of the few surviving examples of late-nineteenth century architecture in Gadsden. The original complex included a detached kitchen, a well, a servant's house and a barn. In 1901 Dr. and Mrs. Charles L. Gunn purchased the property. It remained in that family until the death of their daughter, Carolyn Gunn Bellenger in 1990, who had bequeathed the house to the city of Gadsden. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places February 19, 1993. (Erected in 1993 by the City of Gadsden, Steve A. Means, Mayor, and the Etowah Historical Society) Location: Etowah County Gadsden

ET Hollingsworth was my great-grandfather. This house is beautiful, we had my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary there 10 years ago.

I live in one of 8 townhouses that are built behind the Hollingsworth House. I believe the site of these townhouses is where the detached kitchen, servant's house, barn and well were located.

I am very interested in old architecture. I remember when Carolyn Bellinger taught at Gadsden High. She was Dr. and Mrs. Charles Gunn's daughter.

The house has been beautifully restored but rarely used. Would be beautiful for weddings and receptions. Would love to tour the home.
